HR Development in IT sector |

Since 2002-03 there has been a steady growth
in the seating capacity of Engineering / MCA
/ Polytechnic institutes in the State. For
this purpose Government has been pro active
in promoting self-financing technical
Institutes in the State. To improve the
quality of Technical Education State Govt.
has set up a Technical University in the
State in Sept. 2007. This will help in
stream-lining the admission, academic
activities as well as examination of
Technical Institutions in the State. In
order to improve the quality of technical
man-power State has launched an innovative
programme viz. “College to Career” in
collaboration with IT industry in the State.
During 2006-07 about 6000 students have
benefited from this project. This project
aims at providing knowledge of latest
Software programming tools such as .net and
JAVA. M/s. Microsoft and M/s. TCS are
partnering with State Govt. in conducting
this programme which is a bybrid of
e-learning and satellite communication
technology. During August, 2007 a job fair
was organized for students who have
participated in this programme. More than 20
IT companies including companies such as
TCS, WIPRO, PCS have participated in this
job fair. |

In order to improve the spoken English ability
of the youth in the State, GoG has set up a
“Society for Creation of Opportunities
through Proficiency in English” (SCOPE).
This project has been made operational since
July, 2007. Cambridge ESOP will be the
certifying agency for this programme. |

Each year more than 200,000 youths graduate in
various disciplines from different
Universities in the State. Majority of these
graduates belong to Commerce discipline.
State Government has recently launched
NASSCOM Assessment of Competence (NAC) test
for graduates so as to make certified
man-power readily available for BPO sector
in the State. State Govt. proposes to
dovetail NAC to the aforesaid SCOPE
programme so that certified manpower for BPO
sector would be readily available. |
