Harnessing IT for growth |

Gujarat is one of the most prosperous States in the country. With 4.93% population of the country it contributes about 16% of the country’s manufacturing GDP. Gujarat has emerged as India’s most preferred destination for investments and it has attained one of the highest GDP amongst the Indian States. |
|

|
Gujarat has excellent physical infrastructure and has made rapid strides in the field of Information Technology (IT) and IT enabled sectors (ITES). Companies like M/s. TCS, M/s. Patni Computers Ltd, M/s Mphasis are already functioning in the State while M/s. Syntel Inc, M/s. Vora Technology Park, M/s e-Infochips, M/s Collabera and several other will soon be setting up/expanding their development centres in the near future. |

Gujarat has one of the highest tele-density in the country. All major telecom operators of the country such as M/s Vodafone Essar, M/s Bharti Airtel, M/s Reliance Communications, M/s Tata Communications, M/s Idea Cellular and the public sector telecom operator M/s. BSNL are operational in the State. Gujarat has excellent telecom net work and all major towns and cities are connected through land line and mobile network. Besides exiting IT parks such as
INFOCITY, Gandhinagar & GNFC INFOTOWER, Ahmedabad, recently 2 IT SEZ viz.,
"Mindspace", Gandhinagar by M/s K Raheja
and "Knowledge Park", Vadodara by M/s L&T have also become operational. |

During March 2007, Government of India had announced Semiconductor Policy and Gujarat being one of the preferred manufacturing destinations; the State government has decided to extend the benefits of IT Mega Projects policy, on case to case basis, to these industries as well. |

Very soon, Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar knowledge corridor is going to be an IT SEZ hub. In addition to the proposed Gujarat International Financial Tec City (GIFT) Project in between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, other well known IT Park developers such as M/s. DLF, M/s. Raheja, M/s Hiranandani, M/s Vascon (as co-developer with M/s Citygold) are setting up IT SEZ/ IT parks in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. |

Several local IT park developers such as M/s. Ganesh Housing, M/s Adani, M/s Shivganga, M/s. Calica, M/s SGV are also setting up IT SEZs in this corridor. In addition, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (a Govt. of Gujarat company) has also set up Electronics SEZ in Gandhinagar and another IT SEZ for IT mega projects will soon be operational in the IT zone of the capital city, Gandhinagar. -

Similarly, Vadodara is another growth story where M/s. Larsen & Toubro (one of the most diversified company in India) has set up IT SEZ near Vadodara while State government has proposed to set up IT park at Priyalaxmi Mills land in the heart of the city by inviting bids from eligible IT park developers/ anchor IT company. Likewise, another IT SEZ near industrial town of Vapi, Disrict Valsad has been proposed by M/s Mexus Corporation. |

In order to promote balanced growth of IT Sector in the State, Govt. of Gujarat (GoG) has received approval of Software Technology Park of India, (STPI) to set up STP centre at Surat which is likely to be operational in 2010-11. State government is also planning to set up STP centres at Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar. |
