Gujarat Council on Science and Technology

Overview

The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) was established in September, 1986, as a State S&T Council by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Council becomes an autonomous registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860) from 1st February, 2000 and working under Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat.
GUJCOST has been emerged as an effective and large sale science, education, research and development, innovation and intellectual property rights platform in the state.

The major thrust areas of GUJCOST are as follows:

Vision

"Gujarat Council on Science and Technology shall act as a focal forum to inculcate scientific temper for attaining new heights in research and development for welfare of masses and to improve the quality of their life as well as to solve important issues of socio-economic development of the state by acting as organic link between science, technology and economy.”

Objectives

To promote the popularization of science and the spread of a scientific temper and attitude among the people of the State.
To encourage R & D activities in various sectors by monitoring the development and by feeding available information to assess and recommend financial support for such efforts.
To devise policy guidelines for academic and field policies for the purpose of strengthening the planning and programming amenities for the development of science and technology.
To identify priority areas of Science and Technology needed for long term development of the State.
To advise the State Government on policies and measures relating to the development and deployment of Science and Technology manpower resources.
To establish, or cause to establish or assist in the establishment of the infrastructure (institutions, organizations etc) necessary to achieve the aforesaid activities.
To take any other steps which are relevant to the application of Science and Technology to the problems of the state.

Organization of Science Quiz/Science Seminar/Robotics competitions/Summer Camps and other miscellaneous programs

Research and Development

Implementing the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy of Gujarat
Developing and providing training to the Supercomputer Facility in the State
Developing IP and Innovation Clubs in all districts of Gujarat
To channelize research efforts to develop final products and processes.
To encourage applied research leading to indigenous and cutting-edge technologies.
To enhance the IPR repository.
To bridge the gap between industry and academia

Strengthening IPR culture:

To promote intellectual property rights (IPR) among all stakeholders for economic and social growth with fostering innovation.
To help students and researchers file patents through the Patent Information Centre of GUJCOST.
To develop IP Cell in each district for strengthening IP Culture.
